1. Young puppies are like babies they need to build up immunity before they are exposed to other puppies, adult dogs, people that have puppies,or dogs. There are Desi es, virus that your puppy needs time to grow before they are exposed to. It takes 3 days for the shots to be fully in effect. Until the puppy has had all 3 shots it need to be at home. 2. Keeping the puppy on the same food. To change food can cause direr, stress on the stomach and some puppies will not eat new food as well and not get the amount it needs also young puppies may not recognise the smell of the new food and not eat at all. 3. If you have to change food mix 3 or 4 days of the food 1/3 new food 2/3 old food. Next mix food 1/2 for 2 days. Then mix 2/3 new food 1/3 old food. You may think this is to much to do but not mixing it this way is a lot cheaper than a visit to the vet 4. Limit play time, I know it is hard to resist playing with your new baby remember it is a baby and need to rest. Our puppies go in there crates for a nap at 11:30-12:00 and sleep until 2:00-3:00. You can handle them to much picking they up the wrong way can cause there ribs to bruise. 5. At night your baby needs a crate or if you use a open cage it may need to be covered, keep the crate out of a draft, the floor is the coldest part of a room so put it at lost 2 or 3 feet up off the floor. 6. The first few nights your puppy will be getting use to it new home, it was sleeping with litter mates and will have to get use to sleeping alone. Put the crate in the room tell your baby good night and leave the room. DO NOT keep going into the room trying to confront the puppy, each time you go in the puppy learns to cry longer also learns that you will come in and maybe get him out. Puppies that don't learn to be alone for a reasonable length of time develop separation problems. 7. Your baby needs to go potty as soon as it wakes up. When you hear the puppy start wining take them out. If you wate to long you will be cleaning the crate and you can not correct the puppy for what you have done rong. 8. IF YOU PUT YOUR PUPY IN THE BED AND THE PUPPY LEAVES YOU A PREASENT it is YOUR falt not the puppy. I think a puppy needs to be 6 or 7 mounts old before sleeping in anyones bed! 9. |
